You know, when a place is in a strip mall, you assume you're going to get substandard fare and dismissive service in an overly busy atmosphere. I'm pleased to say that Land Ocean surprised me in a lot of good ways when I finally visited with three friends. The atmosphere is busy -- a lot of locals love the place -- but in an energetic way, with a lot of people having a nice meal. Our server was friendly and warm and real and gave great suggestions on what to order. Our drinks were well made, and my salmon was beautifully cooked and well seasoned without being overly salty. A small substitution I requested was easily accommodated, which was a nice addition--and a reflection of the overall service. The next morning, my friends texted to thank me for finding such a great place. We'll definitely be back.
Throughly enjoyed our late lunch/early dinner. Warm and inviting atmosphere. Our server was pleasant and attentive. My burger was cooked at just the right temperature the porta bella mushroom sandwich was well done. The price was decent. We didn't indulge in drinks, appetizers or dessert and walked out with a $37 check. Enjoyable.
My wife wanted to try a new restaurant for her birthday. Well, new to us anyway. We've driven by Land Ocean every time we go to the movies, somewhat intimidated by the swanky appearance. But it was her birthday, so we said why the heck not. And on the first bite, we immediately regretted not trying it out sooner! Yes the outside is fancy but don't let that intimidate you, the interior is comfortable and classy without being pretentious. Also - the menu prices are comparable to most other places out there. You can't go to fast food without paying $15 a person. Here? You can get an absolutely amazing burger for $20. The same as most other sit down places. Yes, if you want to drop $50 for a steak you can absolutely do that here. But if you want something simpler, like a burger, they have that too, and done very well. In fact that's what I had. The "Lavish burger" cooked medium. Spicy aoli, guac, bacon, a thick patty, a caramelized onion adorn this bad boy. If I had a critique, I would say it doesn't need the guac, I wish the bacon was thicker, and I wish the bun was a bit more toasted. I'm nitpicking here, it was absolutely delicious. My wife also had the Lavish burger, well done, and had absolutely zero complaints. As my wife and I went with a party, we had an assortment of things to try. My mother in law was starving so she ordered a plethora of appetizers. Garlic cheese bread, mini Wellingtons, crab cakes, and mashed potatoes. Mashed taters? Chunky mashed, with a TON of butter flavor. Delicious. Not much else to say. Crab cakes? Normally I don't like them. Here? Amazing! Great crunch and crab flavor, wonderful texture. Definitely recommend. Mini Wellingtons? Honestly? Reminded me of a beef pot pie, but in a good way. A nostalgic bite, really. Great tasting sauce, soft beef, and a crispy pastry around it. Definitely worth getting. The garlic cheesey bread? I'll be honest - good, but I've had better. Why? Well, it needed salt and pepper. The actual bread was great, and it had a good amount of butter and herbs, but it still felt a little bland. Maybe a saltier cheese is needed? Or just top it off with some flakey salt and cracked pepper for a little extra something something. $9 for bread means I'm gonna be a tad critical. Our friend got a few bourbon drinks, along with some raw oysters, and loved them. Another friend got beef stir fry, and said it was really good. Even the tea was great. I've been diggin Arnold Palmers lately and this was by far the tastiest one I've gotten in...well, ever. Even the side salad was perfectly delicious, the homemade ranch a great touch. I'm writing this days afterwards, but I'm still struck by the high quality of the ingredients, the super polite and attentive wait staff, and comfortable seating. I definitely want to go back and see what else they have on offer. 5 out of 5.
Food was really good here. Solid service. I wasn't blown away though but it's a good place to try at least once.
Sean our server was great... he let us enjoy ourselves, there was zero rush and the bottomless mimosas kept flowing. Photos are a little yellow due to the lighting, but the food was great. The crème brûlée French toast comes with a nice salty bacon and the syrup tastes like the Carmel you would find on top of that dessert. The burrito was filling and good. Would ask for the salsa on the side. The best thing on the menu is the country fried steak. The potatoes are crispy and the meat had great flavor. Will definitely be back to try more on the menu.
Food was great, nice atmosphere, quick service... Steak and King Crab were cooked perfectly
Part Two We had an incredible dinner at Land and Ocean (L&O) with my boss, and it was nothing short of spectacular. Our server, Jesse, made the evening unforgettable with top-notch service and attention to detail. We started with poke bowls that were fresh and bursting with flavor. The main courses were just as impressive - perfectly cooked steak, succulent lobster, and the most amazing prime rib we've ever tasted. Every dish was prepared to perfection and truly showcased the culinary excellence of L & O. The ambiance was elegant yet comfortable, providing the perfect backdrop for our dinner. The atmosphere was just right for both business and relaxation, making the entire experience even more enjoyable. The jalapeño martinis added the perfect spicy kick to our meal, while the double Yale was smooth and satisfying. It was a night of fantastic food, great drinks, and impeccable service. L & O exceeded all our expectations, and we left completely satisfied. Whether you're hosting a business dinner or just enjoying a night out, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommend!
Visited Reno with my family in early August and found this place by suggestion of a friend. I had the Vanilla old fashioned with the in-house infused bourbon and it was excellent. For starters we shared the tenderloin wellingtons and the prawns. I had the surf and turf entree as well and a blood orange sorbet for dessert. All of the food was fantastic, the coconut sauce with the steak was perfect to go with the meal. Our server was a young man named Jesse. He was super friendly and personable, and he made sure that we had a great experience. All of the staff was super warm and inviting as well as really intelligent, making sure everything was top notch for our meal. We will definitely be coming back to this place and highly recommend if you are visiting Reno or just passing by!
Today my husband took me out on a lunch date to "Land and Ocean". We use to come here all the time, but after a few of our favorite servers and managers left, it wasn't the same. I don't like feeling like a number when I walk into a business ready to spend money. Today, my husband and I had a great experience. We decided to sit at the bar, which is my favorite. The bar tender immediately welcomed us, placed menu's in front of us, and served us water. It was a breath of fresh air. She gave us a few minutes to decide on what we would like to drink. We both ordered a cocktail- both were yummy and refreshing. Definitely a strong hand pour. After she serviced us our drink of choice, she took our food order. My husband went with the traditional cheese burger. I choose the Waygu Thai Noodles Steak Salad. The burger was cooked just how my husband likes it. The fry's were fresh and lightly salted. My salad was delicious! I really enjoyed that I had more salad than noddles. The steak was cook to medium, but the last piece I eat was way over cooked. At the end of our meal, she offered us dessert, which sounded good, but we passed. After paying we decided to leave. I really wished she would have told us about their Happy Hour, which started at 3pm. We got there at 2pm... We definitely would have stayed instead of venture to another location.
My husband and I decided to go try Land Ocean restaurant at the Summit Mall. We hit the Jack Pot on Saturday and Sunday's they serve a separate brunch menu and bottomless Mimosas for $14!!! My husband had the breakfast burrito with two meats and I had the fish and chips! The waiter Sean was fabulous and he just made our meal perfect! He kept the champagne flowing. Also he works at Ruth Chris, no wonder he is an awesome waiter and makes you feel special! I wish Sparks had classy restaurants like this. Everything was above and beyond!! Can't wait to go back.
